Quickly go through the Basics

You have been driving for years in your own country. AusDriving Instructor are going to start with some fundamentals to guarantee that all of our students understand the vehicle.

A quick introduction to Cabin Drills, which involve adjusting your seats, steering wheels, seat distance, basic switches and controls, dashboard, electronic controls, and mirror angle. (it sounds simple, but based on our experience… 9 out of 10 drivers don’t know all of it until they had their first lesson with us.)

You may have driving experience, but if you do not comprehend the basic features of the new vehicle in which you sit, you increase your risk of driving that vehicle.

Australian Road Rules

You must have passed your Theory Test, but do you able to apply all of it while driving on the road?

Breaking any Road Rules might causing you getting hefty fines & it get’s worst if you get demerit points. It might causing you having condition applied on your driving licence and you must declared it to your Insurer which eventually affected your insurance premium too.

We will be focusing on basic road rules on Signalling, Merging, Traffic Lights & understanding of Road Markings. We will also bringing you to different types of school zones, modified T-junctions, maneuver around parked cars or obstructions.

In addition to the normal traffic conditions, we always include additional road conditions by showing you there are possibility of having other types of scenarios with different rules applicable to it. We do this in addition to our lesson to all our students.

We will EXPLAIN and show you scenarios by Instant replay of dashcam records, drawings & verbal explanation in SIMPLE English/your preferred language.

STEP of License Conversion

SIMPLE Steps:-

  1. VISA Status: Temporary Resident (TR) or Permanent Resident (PR)?
  2. Go Service SA, register for a Client ID
  3. Create login for My L’s (check with Service SA)
  4. Go through online course in My L’s and then take the Theory Test at the end.
  5. After Pass your test. Arrange a visit to Service SA to get the physical “Temporary Driving Permit” printed out.

Note:

ALWAYS Check with Us on the steps of taking the Theory Test, as everyone’s background requirement will be slightly difference from each other.

TAKE NOTE the “Temporary Driving Permit” is only valid for 90 days from the issue date.

DO NOT RUSH to take Theory Test before getting a proper advice from Us.

What if I failed my Test?

You might be worry about what happen if you failed your VORT.

If your “Temporary Driving Permit” is still valid, you can continue driving with the permit and continue arrange for the next attempt.

If your permit expired. You may be issued with a L-license OR Service SA can issue another “Temporary Driving Permit” to you. Bare in mind that criteria applicable for the extension of permit.

Criteria to be met for the extension of “Temporary Driving Permit”:-

  1. Permit holder MUST NOT have attempted the test OR booked any test.
  2. Your Overseas License is still valid.

WHAT IF YOU UNABLE TO PASS THE TEST BEFORE PERMIT EXPIRED?

As mentioned earlier, you will be given a L-license. Not to be too worry about this, as the L that you are holding only limits you not to drive ALONE without a supervising driver sitting beside you.

You can still book & attempt your VORT until you pass. You DO NOT need to go through the “P-license” process. Which means after you passed your VORT, you will still be given an Australian License.

What is VORT？

VORT is Vehicle On Road Test

Usually took around 45 minutes of drive include Tasks.

Scoring system:-

5 slow-speed Manouvers – comprises of maximum 10%

General Driving – comprises of maximum 90%

Total score 100% (minimum 90% to pass)

Not breaking Road Rules OR Failed System-of-Car-Control

AusDriving will arrange & choose the Examiner for you.

Logbook Method (CBT&A)?

This is Competency-Based Training & Assessment method of getting an Australian License.

Long story short… THIS WILL NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE (estimate within year 2025).

Due to this changes, we no longer recommend CBT&A / Logbook Method.

RISK you might take if you continue with this Test method:-

  • Half way through your course, the test method is obsolete. You will return to VORT learning method.
  • Based on our experience, CBT&A learner is not 100% ready for VORT due to the test criteria differences.
  • Student’s feedback on CBT&A has dropped tremendously in recent year, specifically since COVID-19.
  • CBT&A takers found difficulties when changing Instructor, if he/she not happy with the current Instructor’s services.

How much does it cost?

Check out our pricing page https://ausdriving.com.au/lesson-prices/ for our updated pricing. We have Packaged Deal too! If you are unsure, always sent us SMS to have a chat about it before deciding.

There is no set amount of lessons for each learner because every learner is unique.

You may refer to our previous Overseas student’s lesson as a guide only:-

  • Frequent Driver & Up to 80% drive skill (test) – 2 x 90mins lessons
  • Frequent Driver & Up to 50% drive skill (test) – 3 to 5 lessons (90mins & 60mins)
  • Occasional Driver, but drives well – 3 to 5 lessons (90mins & 60mins)
  • Mostly not driving – will be same as Beginner Driver

We will assess you on the first drive and be able to let you know how many lessons you might need. It will always depend on other factors, particularly the “gap” between our lesson & “own practice” after our lesson.

We don’t provide a “Guaranteed Passing Scheme” or a “1-Day Intensive Driving Course” since we are adamant that driving safely, confidently, and out of habit is the key to passing your test. Simply passing the exam without even learning to drive safely is the same as waiting for tragedy to strike.

So far, we always ensure our learners is well prepared before book in the VORT test. Our learner’s happy faces in our Social Media proves this method works well for them.

Lessons can be taught from morning till night.

We will discuss about and organize your lesson as well.

It will based on different student’s unique learning style, work schedule, study schedule or any other committed time.

We suggest that you follow our proposed lesson plan so we can schedule you in the time slot that best suits you.

The instructor will ensure that they have enough rest so that they can concentrate on the coaching. You wouldn’t want an instructor who is drowsy or tired sitting next to you during your class.

If you didn’t succeed on your first attempt, don’t worry. You are not alone; the industry as a whole has a passing percentage of roughly 42% on the first attempt (Early-2022 bulletin updates).  Even if you occasionally fail, you may still be a competent driver.

If AusDriving believes you are not prepared for the test, we will not advise you to take it.

In order to address any minor issues that might still be present in your driving habits, AusDriving Instructor always discusses the test results with the Examiner.

So far we have 100% VORT passing rate. Approximately 70% pass in 1st-attempt (Overseas Experience Driver – mainly failed due to driving habit & rush for early test).

How do you accept payment?

AusDriving Instructor accept Cash, Bank Transfer, PayID.

We regret that we are unable to accept credit/debit card payments as they always entailed additional fees that ultimately increased the cost of your lesson.

There are uncertainties for everyone. Changes are always permitted, but avoid making them a habit.

We driving instructors have dedicated time to organizing your lesson’s route and scheduling our time slot. We would lose out if someone had to cancel at the last minute because we couldn’t fit anyone in and it wouldn’t be fair to do so without proper planning.

We hope you understand that you won’t be expecting Us to squeeze you into any slot without prior planning.

To protect the safety of our instructor and students, our car has comprehensive insurance, a 5 star ANCAP rating, and is regularly inspected for roadworthiness.

You don’t need to worry about this because we are accredited driving instructors with active licences, thus everything has been established with Insurance Company. Similar to when we ask you to show us your driver’s licence or permit, you may always ask us to show you our driving instructor’s licence.

You don’t have to be concerned about unintentionally damaging our car, you know that. Your lesson fee already included any risks the instructor would have to take.

Understand how to protect the car, and the Instructor will always be on the alert to avoid danger happening to our own car or your car.

For VORT test (once confirmed)

  • No refund, if cancel <4 days prior to the Test Day.
  • Partial refund, if cancel >4 days prior to Test Day

For driving lessons, AusDriving Instructor always assess your driving skill and advice accordingly. We have never overcharged on our students.

Just for your peace of mind, we can arrange for the refund if there is unused portion of your prepaid lesson payment.

Currently we covers Eastern Suburb, within 15mins radius from Firle Plaza, Glynburn Road.

We are glad that there are lots of Overseas Driver travel all the way from the other side of the City to get lesson with AusDriving Instructor too. Due to increasing demand, we have started to search & train new Instructor and hopefully they able to join us soon.

AusDriving Instructor will always provide you options on lesson plan. We do work with other Driving School who can provide Driving Lesson at different places.
